Oregon
Pledge Group
Pledge is for girls between 7 and 11 who pledge themselves to a life of
love and service, with the hope that they will join Rainbow when they
reach
the age of 11. They have at least one service project per term. Each
Pledge
Group is sponsored by a Rainbow Assembly and they participate in at
least
one fun event with the Rainbow Girls every term, plus several of their
own fun activities. They don't have fundraisers, since the Assembly is
responsible
for the Pledge Group's finances, though they are able to participate in
Rainbow fundraisers, if invited. Pledge Groups have officers, similar
to
Rainbow.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pledge
What will each girl gain from this program?
Each girl has the opportunity to learn the importance of being of
service
to others, to accept responsibility and to develop her own leadership
qualities.
How does a girl become a member?
Any girl between the ages of 7 and 11 may become a pledge to
the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls upon being recommended
by one girl and one adult from the following list: Pledge Sister,
Rainbow
Girl, Majority Member of Rainbow, Member of the Masonic Lodge, or
Member
of the Eastern Star.
Who is in charge of the program?
This program is sponsored by the local Rainbow Assembly, whose Advisory
Board appoints a Pledge Mother and Assistant Pledge Mother. These
ladies
are responsible for the operation of the Pledge Group and reports
directly
to the Supreme Inspector in Oregon.
Who may attend the pledge meetings?
The pledge meetings are open to the pledge members, their friends and
families. There is no restriction because of fraternal affiliation, but
meetings are not open to the public.
Do the girls have their own ritual?
Yes, their Rituals include Opening, Closing, Initiation, Blossom
Ceremony,
Majority and Installation ceremonies.
What other activities are there in addition to meetings?
Every group has at least one service project a term (six months). These
projects may be in conjunction with the local Rainbow Assembly. Since
the
Pledges are future Rainbow Girls, fun activities are planned with the
local
Assembly so the girls may get to know each other. We have slumber
parties,
take trips to the zoo, parks and beach. We go on hayrides, march in
parades
and have mystery trips.
There are no initiation fees or dues as a pledge sister.
